About the Firm

At the Law Offices of William B. Reichhardt & Associates,
we’re dedicated to providing zealous and responsible advocacy
for our clients. Although the majority of the cases we address
involve special education, juvenile law, and school law, we also
have extensive experience with family law, mental health, and
criminal defense.
We serve Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William, Arlington, Fauquier,
and Stafford counties, as well as the cities of Alexandria and
Falls Church. We offer consultation and support services for cases
throughout Virginia.
Our attorneys and paralegals offer extensive experience in court
litigation at the trial and appellate levels, school disciplinary
hearings, special education planning and appeals, and
supportive advocacy for all levels of mediation and alternative
dispute resolution.
Many of our cases involve advocacy for the best interests of children/juveniles, families and persons with disabilities. Our experience and familiarity with court and hearing processes helps our clients assert and protect legal rights and claims. Often, cases can be resolved through creative resolution strategies based on experience and expertise. In all cases we strive to help our clients solve difficult problems through responsible and professional representation.
In special education and school discipline cases we help students and parents advocate for services and placements that help students achieve meaningful educational progress. When school discipline is an issue, we work to insure that the discipline includes due process, fairness and is proportionate to the unique facts for the client’s case. Where consequences for bad behavior are appropriate, the consequences should be measured and implemented in a way that allows a student to recover and learn from the experience. It is important to strengthen the communication and coordination between parents and school personnel. Every effort is made to preserve and protect a student’s inclusion in the school program so that problems can be solved more constructively in the future.
Our approach to legal issues involving children and families is to help clients advocate for workable strategies that work for the best interest of children and maximize responsible parenting opportunities for parents. Over the years we have developed strong working relationships with mental health professionals and education experts who serve as resources for our attorneys and clients. These connections allow us to help facilitate realistic goals and objectives to solve problems in difficult education, family and criminal law cases.
Our familiarity with the resources and laws that apply to provision of services to children and adults suffering from mental health disabilities allows us to better serve clients in this sensitive legal area. We have experience giving legal counsel to clients with a spouse suffering from a mental disability or an addiction. In many cases we have represented parents of adult children who are struggling with independence due to mental health disabilities. In such cases it is important to set achievable goals with coordinated support and guidance from legal counsel and the mental health service community.
Our experience in criminal defense for juveniles and adults ranges from traffic cases to jury trials for major felony offenses. In all of these cases we are dedicated to defending due process and fair and reasonable dispositions. In sentencing proceedings we help clients distinguish themselves and their unique strengths and needs to the court as we advocate for a fair and measured sentence. When our clients have committed offenses, we counsel restitution to victims and community service when appropriate. In juvenile cases, attention is paid to the child’s legal record to preserve opportunities for rehabilitation and to minimize any negative impact for future employment or higher education.
The lawyers in our firm approach legal advocacy as a way of helping people solve difficult problems that directly affect them and their families. Legal services should be provided through a cooperative and affordable partnership with our clients. Whether in the court room or at the negotiation table, our relationships with opponents are professional and focused on solving problems. It is our commitment to these principles that have enabled us to serve so many over the years.
