Colleen A. Sweeney, Esquire

Colleen A. Sweeney is a long-time resident of Northern Virginia. She currently resides in Springfield, Virginia. Mrs. Sweeney joined William B. Reichhardt & Associates in 2000 as an associate. Mrs. Sweeney received her B.A. from West Virginia University in 1990 with a major in Psychology. She graduated Summa Cum Laude and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Prior to attending law school Mrs. Sweeney had a career in education and the mental health profession. She received her law degree from The Catholic University of America, The Columbus School of Law in 1997 and graduated Magna Cum Laude. While in law school, Mrs. Sweeney worked at a law firm which specialized in many aspects of the education and mental health law systems. Mrs. Sweeney also served as an Associate Editor on The Journal of Contemporary Health Law Policy.
Mrs. Sweeney was admitted to the Virginia Bar in 1997 and is licensed to practice at all levels of the Virginia state courts. She is also an active member of the Virginia State Bar and the Fairfax Bar Association. Mrs. Sweeney has been a lecturer at continuing legal education classes and a speaker at the Virginia State Bar Convention. In 2007, Mrs. Sweeney was admitted to the Supreme Court of the United States of America and successfully prevailed on a case involving special education issues. Additionally, Mrs. Sweeny has represented clients at every level of the appellate process in the Commonwealth of Virginia and in the Federal Court system. Ms. Sweeney practices primarily in the area of family law and educational law.
Mrs. Sweeney has committed her practice to thoughtful attention to the client through all steps of the legal process. By helping the client’s identify their goals and including these objectives from the onset of the proceedings, Mrs. Sweeney has been able to achieve positive results tailored to individuals involved in the case. Over the course of her practice, Mrs. Sweeney has developed extensive experience in promptly identifying the legal issues in a case, gathering the appropriate evidence and preparing the case for trial. This approach has benefited her client because preparation is often a key factor in prompt settlement of cases reducing overall litigation costs.
Based on significant experience, Mrs. Sweeney is able to present issues to a court in a concise direct manner which positively affects the awards for her clients. Mrs. Sweeney also assists clients involved in the mediation process and utilizes arbitration as a method to produce cost effective results for her clients.
